Al-Takwir (Wrapping into a ball)

Translation

Verses 1-29

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ (1)

When the sun is wrapped into a ball,
[Al Quran ; 81:1]

وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انْكَدَرَتْ (2)

And when the stars lose light,
[Al Quran ; 81:2]

وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ (3)

And when the mountains are removed,
[Al Quran ; 81:3]

وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ (4)

And when the she-camels are abandoned,
[Al Quran ; 81:4]

وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ (5)

And when the wild animals are gathered,
[Al Quran ; 81:5]

وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ (6)

And when the seas are filled with flame,
[Al Quran ; 81:6]

وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ (7)

And when souls are paired,
[Al Quran ; 81:7]

وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ (8)

And when the baby-girl who was buried alive is asked
[Al Quran ; 81:8]

بِأَيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْ (9)

For what sin she was killed,
[Al Quran ; 81:9]

وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ (10)

And when the pages are spread,
[Al Quran ; 81:10]

وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ (11)

And when the sky stripped away,
[Al Quran ; 81:11]

وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ (12)

And when Hellfire is set ablaze,
[Al Quran ; 81:12]

وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ (13)

And when Paradise is brought near,
[Al Quran ; 81:13]

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَا أَحْضَرَتْ (14)

Every soul will know what it has brought.
[Al Quran ; 81:14]

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ (15)

So, I swear by the retreating stars,
[Al Quran ; 81:15]

الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ (16)

Those that run then disappear,
[Al Quran ; 81:16]

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ (17)

And (by) the night when it approaches,
[Al Quran ; 81:17]

وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ (18)

And (by) the morning when it breathes,
[Al Quran ; 81:18]

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (19)

Indeed, it is the saying of a noble messenger,
[Al Quran ; 81:19]

ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ (20)

Who is possessed in strength, (and) with the Owner of the throne, secure,
[Al Quran ; 81:20]

مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ (21)

(Who is) Obeyed and honest.
[Al Quran ; 81:21]

وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُونٍ (22)

And your companion is not mad.
[Al Quran ; 81:22]

وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ (23)

And he has certainly seen him (Jebril) by the clear horizon.
[Al Quran ; 81:23]

وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ (24)

And he is not, of the unseen, withholding.
[Al Quran ; 81:24]

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ (25)

And it is not the saying of a pelted devil,
[Al Quran ; 81:25]

فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ (26)

So, where will you go?
[Al Quran ; 81:26]

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ (27)

It is not except a reminder for the worlds,
[Al Quran ; 81:27]

لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَسْتَقِيمَ (28)

For whoever wills among you to go straight.
[Al Quran ; 81:28]

وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ (29)

And you do not will except that Allah wills, the Lord of the worlds.
[Al Quran ; 81:29]
