Al-Hashr (The Gathering)
Translation
Verses 1-24
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ (1)
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
[Al Quran ; 59:1]
هُوَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ لِأَوَّلِ الْحَشْرِ ۚ مَا ظَنَنْتُمْ أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا ۖ وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ مَانِعَتُهُمْ حُصُونُهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ فَأَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَمْ يَحْتَسِبُوا ۖ وَقَذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الرُّعْبَ ۚ يُخْرِبُونَ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَيْدِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَاعْتَبِرُوا يَا أُولِي الْأَبْصَارِ (2)
It is He Who expelled those who have disbelieved among the people of the book from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think that they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah; so Allah came to them from where they did not expect, and He cast into their hearts terror, they destroyed their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers; so consider the lesson, O possessors of visions.
[Al Quran ; 59:2]
وَلَوْلَا أَنْ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَلَاءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ عَذَابُ النَّارِ (3)
And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have castigated them in this world, and for them in the hereafter will be the torture of the fire.
[Al Quran ; 59:3]
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۖ وَمَنْ يُشَاقِّ اللَّهَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ (4)
That is because they opposed Allah and His messenger; and whoever opposes Allah, then indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.
[Al Quran ; 59:4]
مَا قَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ لِينَةٍ أَوْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا قَائِمَةً عَلَىٰ أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَلِيُخْزِيَ الْفَاسِقِينَ (5)
Whatever you have cut down of palm trees or left it standing upon its roots, it is by the permission of Allah and so He would disgrace the disobedient.
[Al Quran ; 59:5]
وَمَا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ مِنْهُمْ فَمَا أَوْجَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْلٍ وَلَا رِكَابٍ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُ عَلَىٰ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ (6)
And whatever Allah restored to His messenger from them, you did not spur for it horses or camels, but Allah gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allah is over everything Capable.
[Al Quran ; 59:6]
مَا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقُرَىٰ فَلِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْيَتَامَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ كَيْ لَا يَكُونَ دُولَةً بَيْنَ الْأَغْنِيَاءِ مِنْكُمْ ۚ وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ (7)
Whatever Allah restored to His messenger from the people of the villages, then it is for Allah and for the messenger and for the relatives and the orphans and the needy and the traveller, so that it should not be a perpetual distribution between the rich from among you; and whatever the messenger has given you, then take it, and whatever he has forbidden you, then abstain. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in punishment.
[Al Quran ; 59:7]
لِلْفُقَرَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانًا وَيَنْصُرُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الصَّادِقُونَ (8)
For the poor who were expelled from their homes and their properties while seeking grace from Allah and approval, and (while) supporting Allah and His messenger, it is them who are the truthful.
[Al Quran ; 59:8]
وَالَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُوا الدَّارَ وَالْإِيمَانَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ يُحِبُّونَ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِمَّا أُوتُوا وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ ۚ وَمَنْ يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ (9)
And (also for) those who have settled in the home and the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not in their chests a need of what they (the emigrants) were given but prefer (others) before themselves, even though they may be in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul, it is them who are the successful.
[Al Quran ; 59:9]
وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ (10)
And those who came after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers who had preceded us in faith and do not make in our hearts any resentment towards those who have believed. Our Lord! Indeed, You are Kind, Merciful.
[Al Quran ; 59:10]
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا يَقُولُونَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَئِنْ أُخْرِجْتُمْ لَنَخْرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمْ وَلَا نُطِيعُ فِيكُمْ أَحَدًا أَبَدًا وَإِنْ قُوتِلْتُمْ لَنَنْصُرَنَّكُمْ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ (11)
Have you not seen those who commit hypocrisy? They say to their brothers who have disbelieved from among the people of the book: If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will not obey, against you, anyone ever. And if you are in a fight, we will surely support you. But Allah testifies that indeed, they are liars.
[Al Quran ; 59:11]
لَئِنْ أُخْرِجُوا لَا يَخْرُجُونَ مَعَهُمْ وَلَئِنْ قُوتِلُوا لَا يَنْصُرُونَهُمْ وَلَئِنْ نَصَرُوهُمْ لَيُوَلُّنَّ الْأَدْبَارَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنْصَرُونَ (12)
If they are expelled, they will not leave with them; and if they are in a fight, they will not support them. And even if they support them, they will surely turn the backs; then they will not be supported.
[Al Quran ; 59:12]
لَأَنْتُمْ أَشَدُّ رَهْبَةً فِي صُدُورِهِمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ (13)
You (the believers) are surely more fearful in their chests than Allah; that is because they are a people who do not understand.
[Al Quran ; 59:13]
لَا يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِي قُرًى مُحَصَّنَةٍ أَوْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ جُدُرٍ ۚ بَأْسُهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ شَدِيدٌ ۚ تَحْسَبُهُمْ جَمِيعًا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ شَتَّىٰ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ (14)
They will not fight you all except in fortified villages or from behind walls. Their distress among themselves is severe; you think they are together, but their hearts are divided. That is because they are a people who do not reason.
[Al Quran ; 59:14]
كَمَثَلِ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ قَرِيبًا ۖ ذَاقُوا وَبَالَ أَمْرِهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ (15)
(Their likeness is) like those shortly before them, they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and for them will be a painful torture.
[Al Quran ; 59:15]
كَمَثَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِذْ قَالَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ اكْفُرْ فَلَمَّا كَفَرَ قَالَ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِنْكَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ اللَّهَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ (16)
(Their likeness is) like the devil when he says to the human: Disbelieve. And when he disbelieves, he (the devil) says: Indeed, I disassociate myself from you; indeed, I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
[Al Quran ; 59:16]
فَكَانَ عَاقِبَتَهُمَا أَنَّهُمَا فِي النَّارِ خَالِدَيْنِ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ الظَّالِمِينَ (17)
So their consequence for both of them is that they will be in the fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the reward of the unjust.
[Al Quran ; 59:17]
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنْظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ (18)
O you who have believed! Fear Allah. And let every soul look for what it has put forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted of what you do.
[Al Quran ; 59:18]
وَلَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَأَنْسَاهُمْ أَنْفُسَهُمْ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ (19)
And be not like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget their own souls; it is them who are the disobedient.
[Al Quran ; 59:19]
لَا يَسْتَوِي أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ وَأَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۚ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ (20)
Not equal are the companions of the fire and the companions of the garden; the companions of the garden are those who will be the winners.
[Al Quran ; 59:20]
لَوْ أَنْزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُتَصَدِّعًا مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ (21)
If We had sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and full of cracks from the fear of Allah; and these examples We strike to the people that perhaps they will give thoughts.
[Al Quran ; 59:21]
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ۖ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ (22)
He is Allah (other than) Whom there is no god except He; the Knower of the unseen and testimony; He is the Compassionate, the Merciful.
[Al Quran ; 59:22]
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ (23)
He is Allah (other than) Whom there is no god except He; the King, the Holy, the Peace, the Bestower of faith, the Ruler, the Mighty, the Compeller, the Superior. Glory be to Allah from what they associate (with Him).
[Al Quran ; 59:23]
هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ ۖ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ (24)
He is Allah the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
