Al-Haqah (The Inevitable Truth)

Translation

Verses 1-30

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

الْحَاقَّةُ (1)

The inevitable truth.
[Al Quran ; 69:1]

مَا الْحَاقَّةُ (2)

What is the inevitable truth?
[Al Quran ; 69:2]

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ (3)

And what can make you realize what is the inevitable truth?
[Al Quran ; 69:3]

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ (4)

Thamud and Aad denied the knocking event.
[Al Quran ; 69:4]

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ (5)

As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering (shriek).
[Al Quran ; 69:5]

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ (6)

And as for Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming and overwhelming wind.
[Al Quran ; 69:6]

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ (7)

He (Allah) has subjected it upon them seven nights and eight days in succession, so you see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.
[Al Quran ; 69:7]

فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُمْ مِنْ بَاقِيَةٍ (8)

So, do you see of them any remains?
[Al Quran ; 69:8]

وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَنْ قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ (9)

And there came Firon and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.
[Al Quran ; 69:9]

فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَابِيَةً (10)

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a severe seizure.
[Al Quran ; 69:10]

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاءُ حَمَلْنَاكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ (11)

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you in the sailing (ark).
[Al Quran ; 69:11]

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ (12)

So We make it for you a reminder and (that) a conscious ear would be conscious of it.
[Al Quran ; 69:12]

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ (13)

And when the trumpet is blown with a single blow.
[Al Quran ; 69:13]

وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً (14)

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with a single crush.
[Al Quran ; 69:14]

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ (15)

Then on that day, the event will occur.
[Al Quran ; 69:15]

وَانْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ (16)

And the sky will split, so it will be on that day frail.
[Al Quran ; 69:16]

وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰ أَرْجَائِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانِيَةٌ (17)

And the angels are at its edges; and there will bear the throne of your Lord above them, on that day, by eight (angles).
[Al Quran ; 69:17]

يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنْكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ (18)

On that day, you will be exposed, not hidden among you anything concealed.
[Al Quran ; 69:18]

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمُ اقْرَءُوا كِتَابِيَهْ (19)

So as for one who is given his book by his right hand, he will say: Here, read my book.
[Al Quran ; 69:19]

إِنِّي ظَنَنْتُ أَنِّي مُلَاقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ (20)

Indeed, I have thought that I will be meeting my reckoning.
[Al Quran ; 69:20]

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَاضِيَةٍ (21)

So he will be in a pleasant living.
[Al Quran ; 69:21]

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ (22)

In an elevated garden.
[Al Quran ; 69:22]

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ (23)

Its produce is hanging low (within reach).
[Al Quran ; 69:23]

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ (24)

Eat and drink; pleasure for what you have previously done in the days past.
[Al Quran ; 69:24]

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَابِيَهْ (25)

And as for one who is given his book by his left hand, he will say: I wish I had not been given my book.
[Al Quran ; 69:25]

وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ (26)

And had not realized what is my reckoning.
[Al Quran ; 69:26]

يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ (27)

I wish it (death) had been the end.
[Al Quran ; 69:27]

مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهْ ۜ (28)

My wealth has not availed me.
[Al Quran ; 69:28]

هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ (29)

Gone from me is my authority.
[Al Quran ; 69:29]

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ (30)

Seize him and shackle him.
[Al Quran ; 69:30]

Translation

Verses 31-52

ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ (31)

Then into hellfire drive him.
[Al Quran ; 69:31]

ثُمَّ فِي سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَاسْلُكُوهُ (32)

Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him.
[Al Quran ; 69:32]

إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ (33)

Indeed, he used not to believe in Allah, the Great.
[Al Quran ; 69:33]

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ (34)

Nor did he encourage the feeding of the needy.
[Al Quran ; 69:34]

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ الْيَوْمَ هَاهُنَا حَمِيمٌ (35)

So, there is not for him here this day any devoted friend.
[Al Quran ; 69:35]

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ (36)

Nor food except from the discharge of wounds.
[Al Quran ; 69:36]

لَا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا الْخَاطِئُونَ (37)

None will eat it except the sinners.
[Al Quran ; 69:37]

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ (38)

So I swear by what you can see.
[Al Quran ; 69:38]

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ (39)

And by what you cannot see.
[Al Quran ; 69:39]

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ (40)

Indeed, it (Quran) is the saying of an honoured messenger.
[Al Quran ; 69:40]

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَا تُؤْمِنُونَ (41)

And it is not the saying of a poet, little do you believe.
[Al Quran ; 69:41]

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ (42)

Nor the saying of a soothsayer, little do you remember.
[Al Quran ; 69:42]

تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (43)

Descended from the Lord of the worlds.
[Al Quran ; 69:43]

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ (44)

And if he had made about Us some (false) sayings.
[Al Quran ; 69:44]

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ (45)

We would have seized him by the right hand.
[Al Quran ; 69:45]

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِينَ (46)

Then We would have severed from him the aorta.
[Al Quran ; 69:46]

فَمَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَاجِزِينَ (47)

And there will be none among you who could prevent Us from him.
[Al Quran ; 69:47]

وَإِنَّهُ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ (48)

And indeed, it is a reminder for the pious.
[Al Quran ; 69:48]

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُكَذِّبِينَ (49)

And indeed, We surely know that among you are deniers.
[Al Quran ; 69:49]

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ (50)

And indeed, it will be surly regretful upon the unbelievers.
[Al Quran ; 69:50]

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقُّ الْيَقِينِ (51)

And indeed, it is surely the truth of certainty.
[Al Quran ; 69:51]

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ (52)

So glorify with the name of your Lord, the Great.
[Al Quran ; 69:52]
