Al-Muzzammil (The Wrapped)
Translation
Verses 1-20
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ (1)
O you who is wrapped (in garments).
[Al Quran ; 73:1]
قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا (2)
Arise (to pray) in the night, except for a little.
[Al Quran ; 73:2]
نِصْفَهُ أَوِ انْقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا (3)
Half of it, or subtract from it a little.
[Al Quran ; 73:3]
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا (4)
Or increase to it, and recite the Quran with (excellent) recitation.
[Al Quran ; 73:4]
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا (5)
Indeed, We will cast upon you a heave saying.
[Al Quran ; 73:5]
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا (6)
Indeed, the establishment (of prayer) in the night is more effective and more suitable for saying (the prayer).
[Al Quran ; 73:6]
إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا (7)
Indeed, for you by day is prolonged glorification (of Allah).
[Al Quran ; 73:7]
وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا (8)
And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with devotion.
[Al Quran ; 73:8]
رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا (9)
The Lord of the east and the west, there is no god except Him, so take Him as Trustee.
[Al Quran ; 73:9]
وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا (10)
And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.
[Al Quran ; 73:10]
وَذَرْنِي وَالْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِي النَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا (11)
And leave Me and the deniers, the possessors of ease in life, and give them a little time.
[Al Quran ; 73:11]
إِنَّ لَدَيْنَا أَنْكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا (12)
Indeed, with Us are shackles and blaze.
[Al Quran ; 73:12]
وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا (13)
And food that chokes and a painful torture.
[Al Quran ; 73:13]
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَهِيلًا (14)
The day when the earth and the mountains will shake and the mountains will become a heap of pouring sand.
[Al Quran ; 73:14]
إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَاهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا (15)
Indeed, We have sent to you a messenger as a witness upon you, as We sent to Firon a messenger.
[Al Quran ; 73:15]
فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا (16)
And Firon disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a violent seizure.
[Al Quran ; 73:16]
فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبًا (17)
So how will you fear (Allah) if you have disbelieved in a day which will make the children white-haired?
[Al Quran ; 73:17]
السَّمَاءُ مُنْفَطِرٌ بِهِ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَفْعُولًا (18)
The sky will break apart thereby; His promise is ever fulfilled.
[Al Quran ; 73:18]
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا (19)
Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.
[Al Quran ; 73:19]
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِنْ ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَنْ لَنْ تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَنْ سَيَكُونُ مِنْكُمْ مَرْضَىٰ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا ۚ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ (20)
Indeed, your Lord knows that you establish (prayer) just under two-thirds of the night, and (at times) half of it, and (at times) a third of it, and (so does) a party of those with you. And Allah measures the night and the day; He has known that you will not be able to measure it, and He has turned to you in forgiveness. So read what is easy of the Quran; He has known that there will be among you those who are sick and others who travel in the land seeking from the grace of Allah and others who fight in the way of Allah. So read whatever is easy from it (the Quran) and establish prayer and give Zakah (Alms) and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever you present for yourselves of (any) good, you will find it with Allah; which is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah; indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
