Al-Muddathir (The Hidden)
Translation
Verses 1-56
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ (1)
O you who is hidden!
[Al Quran ; 74:1]
قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ (2)
Arise and warn.
[Al Quran ; 74:2]
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ (3)
And your Lord, magnify.
[Al Quran ; 74:3]
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ (4)
And your garments, purify.
[Al Quran ; 74:4]
وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ (5)
And (from) uncleanness, avoid.
[Al Quran ; 74:5]
وَلَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ (6)
And do not bestow favours to acquire more.
[Al Quran ; 74:6]
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ (7)
And for your Lord, be patient.
[Al Quran ; 74:7]
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ (8)
And when the trumpet is blown.
[Al Quran ; 74:8]
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ (9)
That is, on that day, a difficult day.
[Al Quran ; 74:9]
عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ (10)
Upon the unbelievers, is not easy.
[Al Quran ; 74:10]
ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا (11)
Leave Me with the one I created alone.
[Al Quran ; 74:11]
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَمْدُودًا (12)
And to whom I made extended wealth,
[Al Quran ; 74:12]
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا (13)
And sons present.
[Al Quran ; 74:13]
وَمَهَّدْتُ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا (14)
And I prepared for him a preparation.
[Al Quran ; 74:14]
ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ (15)
Then he aspires that I should increase (him).
[Al Quran ; 74:15]
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا (16)
No; indeed, he used to be against Our sings stubborn.
[Al Quran ; 74:16]
سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا (17)
I will make him increasingly tired.
[Al Quran ; 74:17]
إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ (18)
Indeed, he thought and deliberated.
[Al Quran ; 74:18]
فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ (19)
And may he be destroyed (for) how he deliberated.
[Al Quran ; 74:19]
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ (20)
Then may he be destroyed (for) how he deliberated.
[Al Quran ; 74:20]
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ (21)
Then he looked on.
[Al Quran ; 74:21]
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ (22)
Then he frowned and scowled.
[Al Quran ; 74:22]
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ (23)
Then he turned his back and was arrogant.
[Al Quran ; 74:23]
فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ (24)
And said: Indeed, this is only an imitated magic.
[Al Quran ; 74:24]
إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ (25)
Indeed, this is only the saying of human being.
[Al Quran ; 74:25]
سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ (26)
I will make him reach Saqar.
[Al Quran ; 74:26]
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ (27)
And what can make you realize what is Saqar?
[Al Quran ; 74:27]
لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ (28)
It lets nothing remaining and leaves nothing.
[Al Quran ; 74:28]
لَوَّاحَةٌ لِلْبَشَرِ (29)
Scorching the skins.
[Al Quran ; 74:29]
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ (30)
Over it is nineteen.
[Al Quran ; 74:30]
وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ (31)
And We have not made the keepers of the fire except angels; and We have not made their number except as a trial for those who have disbelieved, so that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who have believed may increase in faith and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers will say: What does Allah want by this example? Thus does Allah misguide whom He wills, and He guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him; and this is not except a reminder to the human beings.
[Al Quran ; 74:31]
كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ (32)
No! By the moon.
[Al Quran ; 74:32]
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ (33)
By the night when it departs.
[Al Quran ; 74:33]
وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ (34)
By the morning when it shines.
[Al Quran ; 74:34]
إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ (35)
Indeed, it (Saqar) is one of the greatest.
[Al Quran ; 74:35]
نَذِيرًا لِلْبَشَرِ (36)
A warning to the human beings.
[Al Quran ; 74:36]
لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ (37)
For whoever wills among you to proceed or to stay behind.
[Al Quran ; 74:37]
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ (38)
Every soul will be held, for what it earned, a hostage.
[Al Quran ; 74:38]
إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ (39)
Except the companions of the right.
[Al Quran ; 74:39]
فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ (40)
In gardens questioning each other.
[Al Quran ; 74:40]
عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ (41)
About the criminals.
[Al Quran ; 74:41]
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ (42)
What have driven you into Saqar?
[Al Quran ; 74:42]
قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ (43)
They said: We were not of those who pray.
[Al Quran ; 74:43]
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ (44)
Nor did we used to feed the needy.
[Al Quran ; 74:44]
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ (45)
And we used to talk vain with those who talk vain.
[Al Quran ; 74:45]
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ (46)
And we used to deny the day of recompense.
[Al Quran ; 74:46]
حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ (47)
Until there came to us certainty.
[Al Quran ; 74:47]
فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ (48)
And there will not benefit them, the intercession of (any) intercessors.
[Al Quran ; 74:48]
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ (49)
So what is the matter with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away.
[Al Quran ; 74:49]
كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ (50)
As if they were fleeing donkeys.
[Al Quran ; 74:50]
فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ (51)
Fleeing from a lion?
[Al Quran ; 74:51]
بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُنَشَّرَةً (52)
Rather, every person of them wants that he may be given scriptures spread open.
[Al Quran ; 74:52]
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ (53)
No; rather they do not fear the hereafter.
[Al Quran ; 74:53]
كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ (54)
No; indeed, it is a reminder.
[Al Quran ; 74:54]
فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ (55)
So whoever wills will remember it.
[Al Quran ; 74:55]
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ (56)
And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and worthy for forgiveness.
