9.81 - Those who have remained behind rejoiced in their staying behind the messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and themselves in the way of Allah and said: Do not go forth in the heat. Say: The fire of hell is more intense in heat, if they should understand. 9.82 - So let them laugh a little and cry much as a reward for what they used to earn. 9.83 - And if Allah brings you back to a party of them and then they ask your permission to go forth, say: You will never go forth with me and you will not fight with me any enemy. Indeed, you were pleased with sitting the first time, so sit with those who remained behind. 9.84 - And do not pray over any one of them, ever, who has died and do not stand at his grave; indeed, they have disbelieved in Allah and His messenger and died while they were disobedient. 9.85 - And let not their wealth and their children please you; Allah only wants to castigate them therewith in the life of this world and their souls may depart while they are unbelievers. 9.86 - And whenever a sura (Quran chapter) is revealed (stating) to believe in Allah and to strive along with His messenger, those who possess wealth ask you for a permission (to stay) and say: Leave us (behind) that we may be with those who sit. 9.87 - They were pleased to be with those who remained behind; and a seal is set upon their hearts so they do not understand. 9.88 - But the messenger and those who have believed with him strived with their wealth and themselves; and it is those who will have the good, and it is those who will be the successful. 9.89 - Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding therein; that is the great victory. 9.90 - And those from among the apologetic Bedouins came to be permitted (to remain behind), and those who lied to Allah and His messenger sat (behind); there will strike those who have disbelieved among them a painful torture.
