Abasa (Frowned)
Translation
Verses 1-42
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (1)
He frowned and turned away.
[Al Quran ; 80:1]
أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ (2)
Because there came to him the blind man.
[Al Quran ; 80:2]
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ (3)
And what would make you realize that perhaps he might be purified.
[Al Quran ; 80:3]
أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ (4)
Or remembers so the remembrance would benefit him?
[Al Quran ; 80:4]
أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ (5)
As for one who has no need.
[Al Quran ; 80:5]
فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ (6)
To him you pay attention.
[Al Quran ; 80:6]
وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ (7)
And not upon you if he will not be purified.
[Al Quran ; 80:7]
وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ (8)
And as to one who comes to you striving.
[Al Quran ; 80:8]
وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ (9)
While he fears (Allah).
[Al Quran ; 80:9]
فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ (10)
From him you are distracted.
[Al Quran ; 80:10]
كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ (11)
No; indeed, it is a reminder.
[Al Quran ; 80:11]
فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ (12)
So whoever wills may remember it.
[Al Quran ; 80:12]
فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ (13)
In noble scriptures.
[Al Quran ; 80:13]
مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ (14)
Exalted, purified.
[Al Quran ; 80:14]
بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ (15)
(Carried) by the hands of ambassadors (the angels).
[Al Quran ; 80:15]
كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ (16)
Noble, virtuous.
[Al Quran ; 80:16]
قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ (17)
Perished be the human, how ungrateful is he.
[Al Quran ; 80:17]
مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ (18)
From what thing did He create him?
[Al Quran ; 80:18]
مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ (19)
From a drop He created him and measured him.
[Al Quran ; 80:19]
ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ (20)
Then He eased the way for him.
[Al Quran ; 80:20]
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ (21)
Then He caused him to die and caused him to be buried.
[Al Quran ; 80:21]
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ (22)
Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
[Al Quran ; 80:22]
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ (23)
No; he has not accomplished what He commanded him.
[Al Quran ; 80:23]
فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ (24)
So let the human look at his food.
[Al Quran ; 80:24]
أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا (25)
Indeed, We poured down the water in torrents.
[Al Quran ; 80:25]
ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا (26)
Then We split open the earth with splitting.
[Al Quran ; 80:26]
فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا (27)
And caused to grow therein grain.
[Al Quran ; 80:27]
وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا (28)
And grapes and nutritious plants.
[Al Quran ; 80:28]
وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا (29)
And olives and palm trees.
[Al Quran ; 80:29]
وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا (30)
And dense gardens.
[Al Quran ; 80:30]
وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا (31)
And fruits and grass.
[Al Quran ; 80:31]
مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ (32)
A provision for you and for your cattle.
[Al Quran ; 80:32]
فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ (33)
So when there comes the deafening shriek.
[Al Quran ; 80:33]
يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ (34)
The day a person will flee from his brother,.
[Al Quran ; 80:34]
وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ (35)
And his mother and his father.
[Al Quran ; 80:35]
وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ (36)
And his spouse and his sons.
[Al Quran ; 80:36]
لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ (37)
For every person of them, on that day, will be an affair occupying him.
[Al Quran ; 80:37]
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ (38)
Faces, on that day, will be bright.
[Al Quran ; 80:38]
ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ (39)
Laughing, rejoicing for the good tidings.
[Al Quran ; 80:39]
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ (40)
And faces, on that day, will have upon them dust.
[Al Quran ; 80:40]
تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ (41)
Covered in blackness.
[Al Quran ; 80:41]
أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ (42)
It is them who are the wicked unbelievers.
[Al Quran ; 80:42]
