Al-Mutaffifin (The Cheating Traders)
Translation
Verses 1-36
بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ (1)
Woe to the cheating traders.
[Al Quran ; 83:1]
الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ (2)
Who, when they buy a measure from the people, take it in full.
[Al Quran ; 83:2]
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ (3)
And when they sell them by measure or by weight, they cause (them) loss.
[Al Quran ; 83:3]
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَبْعُوثُونَ (4)
Do they not think that they will be resurrected.
[Al Quran ; 83:4]
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ (5)
For a great day?
[Al Quran ; 83:5]
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (6)
The day the people will stand before the Lord of the worlds.
[Al Quran ; 83:6]
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ (7)
No; indeed, the book of the wicked will be in Sijjeen.
[Al Quran ; 83:7]
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ (8)
And what can make you realize what is Sijjeen?
[Al Quran ; 83:8]
كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ (9)
A numbered book.
[Al Quran ; 83:9]
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ (10)
Woe, on that day, to the deniers.
[Al Quran ; 83:10]
الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ (11)
Who deny the day of recompense.
[Al Quran ; 83:11]
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ (12)
And none denies it except every sinful perpetrator.
[Al Quran ; 83:12]
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ (13)
When Our signs are recited upon him, he says: The tales of the former peoples.
[Al Quran ; 83:13]
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ (14)
No; rather upon their hearts are covering of what they used to earn.
[Al Quran ; 83:14]
كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَمَحْجُوبُونَ (15)
No; indeed, they are from their Lord, on that day, isolated.
[Al Quran ; 83:15]
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ (16)
Then indeed, they will be reaching the hellfire.
[Al Quran ; 83:16]
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ (17)
Then it will be said: This is what you used to deny.
[Al Quran ; 83:17]
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ (18)
No; indeed, the book of the righteous will be in Elliyeen.
[Al Quran ; 83:18]
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ (19)
And what can make you realize what is Elliyoon.
[Al Quran ; 83:19]
كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ (20)
A numbered book.
[Al Quran ; 83:20]
يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (21)
Which is witnessed by those brought near.
[Al Quran ; 83:21]
إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ (22)
Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure.
[Al Quran ; 83:22]
عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ (23)
On couches, looking.
[Al Quran ; 83:23]
تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ (24)
You know in their faces the brightness of pleasure.
[Al Quran ; 83:24]
يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ (25)
They are made to drink from pure drink, (that is) sealed.
[Al Quran ; 83:25]
خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ (26)
Sealed by goodness; and for that, let the competitors compete.
[Al Quran ; 83:26]
وَمِزَاجُهُ مِنْ تَسْنِيمٍ (27)
And its mixture is from Tasneem.
[Al Quran ; 83:27]
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ (28)
A spring from which those near (to Allah) drink.
[Al Quran ; 83:28]
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ (29)
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who have believed.
[Al Quran ; 83:29]
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ (30)
And if they passed by them, they wink at one another.
[Al Quran ; 83:30]
وَإِذَا انْقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ (31)
And when they returned to their family, they would return jesting.
[Al Quran ; 83:31]
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ (32)
And when they saw them, they said: Indeed, those are surely misguided.
[Al Quran ; 83:32]
وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ (33)
And they were not sent upon them as keepers.
[Al Quran ; 83:33]
فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ (34)
So today those who have believed are, at the unbelievers, laughing.
[Al Quran ; 83:34]
عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ (35)
On couches, looking.
[Al Quran ; 83:35]
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ (36)
Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they used to do.
